Hudson River Valley View from Olana Castle
As a young girl, my parents took us on trips all over the Northeast US and especially to museums. One of their favorite places was the Hudson River Valley. I vividly recall going to Olana Castle, the home of Hudson River School Artist Frederic Edwin Church. In 2010, I was fortunate enough to revisit the Castle and paint a plein air study right from the front porch. This scene is a detailed studio piece featuring the same view of the Hudson River. The deep colors are achieved via many layers of colored glazes, giving the feel of an early fall day.
